Where the stress falls contributes to the auditory impression. Two names with the same stress structure seem related – even if individual sounds differ.
The speech melody counts
Stress and speech melody determine how a name "sounds". If the stress falls in the same place and the rise and fall are similar, two trademarks seem close to the ear.
Stress is therefore taken into account in the overall sound assessment – it can reinforce proximity or, in the case of a clearly different melody, weaken it.
